Los Angeles Times "Critic's Pick"

Soundings is a unique drama about the power of choosing and changing one’s future. Set in an institute that works with people who stutter, a man and a teenage boy from different worlds struggle to find common ground. With a bond forged from rejection and grief, they reluctantly become each other’s door to the freedom of language, forgiveness, and hope. The play is a comic-drama that touches the heart and opens the mind.

The language issue becomes a metaphor for all our disabilities. The audience is meant to confront how they deal with their own baggage and how tolerant they are of the baggage others carry.  As they face their fears and perceived limitations, they discover what they expect of themselves and what others expect for them.

First produced in 2001, the play remains as important and timeless as on its opening night.
